About Me
Welcome to my website. I'm Maximillian P. M. Soltysiak, a Canadian student researcher. From benchtop to desktop, I love all things related to synthetic biology and bioinformatics.
I completed my BSc at the University of Western Ontario in Genetics and Biochemistry in 2020. I am currently at Harvard University/Harvard Medical School, where I am a third year PhD Candidate in the Springer laboratory in the Biological and Biomedical Sciences PhD program. Here, I am helping to develop sustainable methods for biomass and food production using genetic engineering and directed evolution with autotrophic bacteria. In addition, I am also developing techniques for using minimally invasive, pain-free microneedle devices for novel diagnostics. Over the past few years I have had the privilege and opportunity to perform research simultaneously in two laboratories. With the Karas laboratory, from 2017 to 2020, I worked in the realm of synthetic biology, developing methods for DNA editing and delivery to eukaryotic cells, as well as large-scale engineering efforts on free-living bacteria. At the same time, in the Hill laboratory, I have helped apply alignment-free machine learning software to the study of genomes and genomic signatures. Using this software, we can better understand the evolutionary and environmental influences on DNA in the world around us and how these factors relate toward classification. Please feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions about what I do or if you would like to get in touch. |
